Emberville Life Skills: All 11 Gathering and Crafting Trades
Emberville splits 11 life skills into 4 gathering and 7 crafting trades. What each produces, where you use them, and why they gate the best gear.

Emberville treats life skills as a second track running alongside combat, not a break from it. There are eleven: four gathering and seven crafting.
The studio’s framing is blunt. Life skills unlock rare materials, rare materials unlock high-end recipes, and high-end recipes are how you reach the best gear. Their words: “Some players might spend just as much time mastering the forge as they do fighting bosses — and that’s by design.”
The four gathering skills
| Skill | What the studio says it produces |
|---|---|
| Mining | Stone, metal, precious stones |
| Woodcutting | Wood |
| Herborism | Herbs and plants |
| Fishing | Fish, algae, water “stuff”, treasures |
The seven crafting trades
| Trade | What the studio says it produces |
|---|---|
| Weaponsmithing | Weapons |
| Armoursmithing | Metal armour |
| Alchemy | Potions and chemicals |
| Cooking | Food and drink with temporary stat bonuses |
| Carpentry | Furniture and the advanced materials used to build the town |
| Jewelcrafting | Trinkets, rings, necklaces |
| Tailoring | Cloth and leather armour, plus accessories |
The split is tidy: cooking and alchemy keep you alive in the dungeon. Carpentry, jewelcrafting and tailoring decide how strong you get and how far the town comes back.
Where you actually use them
The studio gives you a private space called the Creative Area. Building your home, growing crops, decorating and crafting all happen there, and every life-skill tool lives there too.
They describe it as your off-ramp from combat. You come back from a run, work through materials, upgrade your stations, and turn out the components the town needs.
Town rebuilding eats crafted goods directly. Carpentry output — furniture and advanced materials — goes straight into Emberville’s construction.
The early loop that already works
IGN’s hands-on from September 11, 2026 confirmed these steps:
- Ore, trees and plants are harvestable as you explore. No tool unlock first.
- Enemies drop crafting components, so fighting and material farming are the same activity.
- Campfires let you cook. Raw meat becomes food with better healing.
The same piece notes that the gathering and crafting mastery trees weren’t implemented in the Prologue build and showed a Coming Soon notice. You can perform the action; you can’t see the full progression curve yet.
Why this half deserves real attention
The studio did not file life skills under “side content”:
- Rare materials only unlock through high life-skill levels.
- High-end recipes need those rare materials.
- The best gear sits behind high-end recipes.
That chain means a pure combat route has a lower ceiling.
The studio also admits the game has a lot of systems, and their internal test is whether each one is “fun, or just feels like a chore”. That’s their own acceptance criterion, not marketing.
